Florida Playbook generally tries to let Washington stories stay in D.C., but yesterday’s New York Timesīlockbuster about President Donald Trump allegedly asking his now-fired FBI director to drop the investigation of his now-fired national security adviser has the makings of impeachment and could dominate politics at the state and local level as well. In the Trump Era, we’re living in dog years. Monday seems so long ago, and Friday so far away. Time to buy some running shoes.Bianca Padró Ocasio Bustos and the staff of POLITICO Florida The fact of the matter is that you're usually traveling vastly faster in a game then you are in real life. When you run, you're essentially leaping and your torso travels vertically to a much greater degree.Īny game that does head bob well should take this into account and reduce the movement when moving slowly. You won't perceive a lot of head bob when you're walking because your gate is small and your body isn't traveling much in the vertical axis. I don't mean this as a personal attack and I realize I'm being motivated by nerd stereotypes, but it sounds like you don't get out and run very often.

But then, I can't say it bothered me in STALKER or any other game that I think of, so I can't say I'm vehemently opposed to it either.

So, in short, I don't perceive motion sway when I'm walking around normally, so I don't miss it when games have "artificially smooth" walking motion. Basically, blurriness on objects that were closer or further away than the object or plane under your crosshairs, and which were in turn rendered "blurry." I found this feature (in its demo movie) actually quite annoying and unwatchable, as there was often a disconnect between what my eyes were actually looking at, and what the game thought my "field of vision" should be, resulting in me looking at a blurred object.Īnd of course, that 15-20" 'window' in front of you doesn't really extend past your natural center of gaze anyway, so arguing that things on its periphery should be in your peripheral vision is kind of silly, unless you're rocking some 48" widescreen monitor or the wraparound multi-monitor display, or some such shit. It's like that tech demo (for Day of Defeat 2, I think?) they released a while back that showcased depth-of-field artifacts. Which is a nice recipe for headaches or motion sickness. The problem as far as I'm concerned, is that it isn't something I perceive in real life and so putting it into a game can result in a disconnect between what my mind expects to see and what the game is showing me. Though I certainly wouldn't object to providing an option for those that disagree. Ultra smooth movement just feels absurdly artificial to me and eliminates immersion.
